Birthday Parties...You Got to Bring it!

I am so sick and tired of hearing parents talk about "When I was little, I had a friend and a cake and that was it". Well - that was 1975 and this is 2017 and the Birthday game isn't played that way anymore. Sure - simple is cute and satisfying to the heart but in the mommy games that won't win you any medals. Here it is - the honest, brutal truth about the birthday parties. I think some of my personal truth has to do with living in LA, but I also think I would probably be the same no mater where we were. Ok - so here it is...I know it's ridiculous to spend thousands of dollars on a party for a one year old. I know he could care less what the cake looks like, what the appetizers are and if everything is "on theme" - but I care. I throw these over the top parties because not only do I love it, but it makes me feel good that I go over the top, and that I can go over the top for my kids. I want them to look back when they are older and know that I wanted to do all of this for them. As our daughter gets older, she gets to call the shots for her special day - but still let's me add a little mommy sparkle - just not toooo much. I can't help myself. I know they don't need it - but maybe I do. That's the truth - I need it. It is a physical representation that is delivered in a package of amazing themed decorations, balloons, food and entertainment that proves they are loved, they are celebrated and they have more than I ever had as a child. I need them to know that everything I do, I do it for them. And - it doesn't hurt that I have a great reputation for throwing the best parties :) Also - before everyone get's all "they only need time with you - they don't need "stuff" - yes! I totally know that too! I spend TONS of time with my kids and I am always doing crafts, cooking, baking, finding activities - all centered around them and with them. My weekends are spent filled with activities that each child likes and then quality family time at home. I have this mommy thing down - I just like to go big for their birthdays and don't even get me started on what I want to do for our little girls Sweet 16 in a few years - balloons coordinated with the bow on top of her brand new car!!!
